Zodiac compatibility · the twelve earthly branches
Goat compatibility: the signs that click and the signs that clash
The Goat’s branch, 未, is late summer and sun-warmed earth. Tradition reads it as gentleness, care and an artistic eye.
- Branch and element
- 未 · Earth
- Triangle of affinity (三合)
- 亥卯未 · Pig · Rabbit · Goat
- Six Harmonies partner (六合)
- 午 · Horse
- Opposite sign (沖)
- 丑 · Ox
The Goat and the other eleven signs
These relations come from the traditional tables of the twelve earthly branches. The names are symbols for how two people tend to meet; they do not decide whether a relationship works. The character sketches of each sign are tradition’s pictures too, not a description of the people born in that year.
Signs said to suit the Goat
Linked by a triangle of affinity or the Six Harmonies.
- Rabbit 卯Triangle of affinity (三合)
- Pig 亥Triangle of affinity (三合)
- Horse 午Six Harmonies (六合)Same season (方合)
The Goat forms the 亥卯未 triangle of affinity with the Rabbit and the Pig, a kind group that may defer decisions to each other. The Horse is its Six Harmonies partner and summer neighbour (午未), giving the Goat a push. State your own view once more, clearly.
Signs said to rub against the Goat
A clash, resentment, punishment, harm or break, with no triangle or Six Harmonies.
The Ox meets the Goat in a clash (丑未) plus a punishment: winter earth against summer earth. With the Rat, resentment and harm both apply, so small slips linger. The Dog brings a punishment and a break (戌未). Say “this is what suits me” rather than arguing who is right.
Signs read as neutral for the Goat
Only the same season, or no named relation at all.
The Snake shares the Goat’s summer season (巳午未). The Tiger, the Dragon, the Monkey and the Rooster have no named relation with it; ask for what you need without apologising.
Two people born under the Goat, as tradition reads it
Two Goats protect each other’s feelings, so both may end up never saying what they want. Practise naming a preference first, starting with small choices.
In the end, compatibility is how you treat each other
Zodiac compatibility looks at one thing only: the year each person was born. Two people with the same pair of signs can get along in completely different ways, so how you listen and how you make up after a disagreement matters far more than any name in the table. For a fuller picture, try a saju reading with both birth dates, or the personality-based pages below.
Goat compatibility: common questions
Which signs suit the Goat?
The Rabbit and the Pig (the 亥卯未 triangle of affinity) and the Horse (午未, Six Harmonies).
Are the Goat and the Ox really a bad match?
They clash (丑未) and share the 丑戌未 punishment group. Tradition pictures both as diligent, though; divide roles rather than correcting each other.
Are the Goat and the Rat a resentment pair?
Yes: 子未 is resentment and harm. If a quick remark hurts, say so gently, right away.
Which years are Goat years?
1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 and 2015, each from Ipchun. Ipchun fell on February 4 in 1991, so a birth on February 3, 1991 counts as a Horse.
Goat birth years (from Ipchun)
In the saju calendar the sign changes at Ipchun, the start of spring (around 4 February), not on January 1. The Goat covers births from each Ipchun below to the day before the next one.
Born between January 1 and February 3, 1991? Then the sign is the previous year’s Horse, while someone born between January 1 and February 3, 1992 still counts as a Goat.
Births 1931–2015; the sign starts at that year’s Ipchun
- 1931 辛未 · from February 5
- 1943 癸未 · from February 5
- 1955 乙未 · from February 4
- 1967 丁未 · from February 4
- 1979 己未 · from February 4
- 1991 辛未 · from February 4
- 2003 癸未 · from February 4
- 2015 乙未 · from February 4
Born on Ipchun day itself? The sign then depends on the exact time of Ipchun. Dates are in Korea Standard Time.
This page introduces traditional relations between the zodiac signs, for fun and reflection. Zodiac compatibility is a long-standing East Asian cultural tradition, not a scientifically validated prediction. This page does not promise how any relationship will turn out. Rather than deciding anything by a sign, talk things through with each other.
