Tiger compatibility: the signs that click and the signs that clash
The Tiger’s branch, 寅, opens spring: Ipchun itself begins the 寅 month. Tradition reads it as courage, loyalty and the urge to start things.

- Triangle of affinity (三合)
- 寅午戌 · Tiger · Horse · Dog
- Six Harmonies partner (六合)

The Tiger and the other eleven signs
These relations come from the traditional tables of the twelve earthly branches. The names are symbols for how two people tend to meet; they do not decide whether a relationship works. The character sketches of each sign are tradition’s pictures too, not a description of the people born in that year.
Signs said to suit the Tiger
Linked by a triangle of affinity or the Six Harmonies.
The Tiger forms the 寅午戌 triangle of affinity with the Horse and the Dog, read as companions who run hard together once they agree. The Pig is its Six Harmonies partner, yet the same two branches also form a break: a quick attraction that needs everyday habits talked through early.
Signs said to rub against the Tiger
A clash, resentment, punishment, harm or break, with no triangle or Six Harmonies.
The Monkey brings a clash (寅申) and a punishment at once, so split roles early instead of competing for the lead. With the Rooster, resentment can leave proud words lingering. The Snake adds punishment and harm (寅巳): name what you appreciate, specifically and often.
Signs read as neutral for the Tiger
Only the same season, or no named relation at all.
The Rabbit and the Dragon share the Tiger’s spring season (寅卯辰). With the Rat, the Ox and the Goat, tradition names no relation; curiosity and listening do the rest.
Two people born under the Tiger, as tradition reads it
Two Tigers recognise each other’s nerve at once, and both want to lead. Take turns being the one who decides.
In the end, compatibility is how you treat each other
Zodiac compatibility looks at one thing only: the year each person was born. Two people with the same pair of signs can get along in completely different ways, so how you listen and how you make up after a disagreement matters far more than any name in the table. Tiger compatibility: common questions
Which signs suit the Tiger?
The Horse and the Dog (the 寅午戌 triangle of affinity) and the Pig (寅亥, Six Harmonies).
Are the Tiger and the Monkey really a bad match?
Their branches clash (寅申) and sit in the 寅巳申 punishment group, so tradition expects friction. As teammates with clear roles, two fast movers can do a lot.
Why does the Tiger and Pig harmony also count as a break?
寅亥 belongs to both lists: easy attraction, then differences in daily life. Talking about routines early keeps what is good about it.
Is someone born in January 1986 a Tiger?
No. Ipchun fell on February 4 in 1986, so January births belong to the Ox; the 丙寅 Tiger year starts at Ipchun.
Tiger birth years (from Ipchun)
In the saju calendar the sign changes at Ipchun, the start of spring (around 4 February), not on January 1. The Tiger covers births from each Ipchun below to the day before the next one.
Born between January 1 and February 3, 1986? Then the sign is the previous year’s Ox, while someone born between January 1 and February 3, 1987 still counts as a Tiger.

This page introduces traditional relations between the zodiac signs, for fun and reflection. Zodiac compatibility is a long-standing East Asian cultural tradition, not a scientifically validated prediction. This page does not promise how any relationship will turn out. Rather than deciding anything by a sign, talk things through with each other.
