Rabbit compatibility: the signs that click and the signs that clash

The Rabbit’s branch, 卯, is mid-spring and the eastern gate at sunrise. Tradition reads it as gentleness and a fine sense of mood.

The Rabbit and the other eleven signs

These relations come from the traditional tables of the twelve earthly branches. The names are symbols for how two people tend to meet; they do not decide whether a relationship works. The character sketches of each sign are tradition’s pictures too, not a description of the people born in that year.

Signs said to suit the Rabbit

Linked by a triangle of affinity or the Six Harmonies.

The Rabbit forms the 亥卯未 triangle of affinity with the Goat and the Pig, read as a warm group that sometimes postpones uncomfortable talks. The Dog is its Six Harmonies partner (卯戌), a protective and loyal pair. Instead of “it’s fine”, try saying what you want in one sentence.

Signs said to rub against the Rabbit

A clash, resentment, punishment, harm or break, with no triangle or Six Harmonies.

The Rooster is the Rabbit’s clash (卯酉), east facing west: listen to what the Rooster says apart from its tone. The Monkey is a resentment pair, where jokes can sting. The Rat brings a punishment (子卯), the Horse a break (卯午) and the Dragon harm (卯辰), though the Dragon also shares the Rabbit’s spring season; check expectations often.

Signs read as neutral for the Rabbit

Only the same season, or no named relation at all.

The Tiger shares the spring season (寅卯辰) with the Rabbit. The Ox and the Snake have no named relation with it, so a slow, unhurried start suits everyone.

Two people born under the Rabbit, as tradition reads it

Two Rabbits read each other’s moods without words, and both avoid conflict. Raise difficult topics side by side, on a walk, rather than face to face.

In the end, compatibility is how you treat each other

Zodiac compatibility looks at one thing only: the year each person was born. Two people with the same pair of signs can get along in completely different ways, so how you listen and how you make up after a disagreement matters far more than any name in the table. Rabbit compatibility: common questions

Which signs suit the Rabbit?

The Goat and the Pig (the 亥卯未 triangle of affinity) and the Dog (卯戌, Six Harmonies).

Are the Rabbit and the Rooster really incompatible?

They clash (卯酉), the classic example of friction. Tradition gives them different strengths, though: the Rooster organises, the Rabbit cares, and adjusting tone goes a long way.

Are the Rabbit and the Monkey a resentment pair?

Yes (卯申). Old texts were harsh; today it reads as jokes and serious words getting crossed. Say which jokes hurt.

Which years are Rabbit years?

1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011 and 2023, each from Ipchun. Ipchun fell on February 4 in 1963, so a birth on February 3, 1963 counts as a Tiger.

Rabbit birth years (from Ipchun)

In the saju calendar the sign changes at Ipchun, the start of spring (around 4 February), not on January 1. The Rabbit covers births from each Ipchun below to the day before the next one.

Born between January 1 and February 3, 1987? Then the sign is the previous year’s Tiger, while someone born between January 1 and February 3, 1988 still counts as a Rabbit.

Births 1927–2023; the sign starts at that year’s Ipchun

  • 1927 丁卯 · from February 5
  • 1939 己卯 · from February 5
  • 1951 辛卯 · from February 5
  • 1963 癸卯 · from February 4
  • 1975 乙卯 · from February 4
  • 1987 丁卯 · from February 4
  • 1999 己卯 · from February 4
  • 2011 辛卯 · from February 4
  • 2023 癸卯 · from February 4

Born on Ipchun day itself? The sign then depends on the exact time of Ipchun. Dates are in Korea Standard Time.
